Thank you to our members, volunteers, board of directors, staff, and friends for making this a very productive and wonderful year for the SCBA
Our Editor-in-Chief has assigned me the most impossible job ever: Summarize this highly productive SCBA year, but in 400 words or less. Let’s see….
We have a NEW website—a beautiful, top-notch, mobile-friendly website. Want to sign up for an event with a credit card, or read Sacramento Lawyer magazine, or access our member directory? You can do all these—and more—on your mobile phone.
We added two NEW sections, Construction Law and Criminal Law. With 18 substantive law sections, we look forward to providing you more opportunities for continuing legal education and corroboration with fellow attorneys who share your practice areas.
We started a NEW division dedicated to the needs of members in solo and small practice. In addition to the Barristers’ Club, we hope to ensure a platform of programs that support and advance our members in different stages and types of practices.
We have forged a bond with the Sacramento Law Foundation that is STRONGER than ever—with our own Mary Burroughs serving as Executive Director of both organizations.
We received the prestigious 2015 State Bar Diversity Award for our work through the Diversity Hiring & Retention Committee and the Diversity Fellowship Program. This reflects greatly on the commitment and dedication of the many volunteers, members, and supporters who make up the SCBA.
Let’s not forget the SUCCESS of our events, including the Bench-Bar Reception, Golf Tournament, Spring Member Mixer, and Section Leadership Institute. Our sections, divisions, and affiliates have celebrated a phenomenal year as well. We hope to see you at our upcoming events, including the Pro Bono Award Party on November 10, when we celebrate with our first Pro Bono Award recipient Darrel Woo; and the Annual Meeting on December 7, when we celebrate with Distinguished Attorney of the Year Steve Boutin and our 2016 board.
Last, but certainly not least, we will move into our NEW HOME in January 2016. Conveniently located at 425 University Avenue near Sacramento State, it features an event space that accommodates up to 100 seated or 200 standing, and meeting space to accommodate smaller gatherings. Come check out our new home and celebrate with us (date to be determined) for our Open House.
I am truly honored to end my term knowing that we have had a very productive year, and that the SCBA will continue to flourish in the hands of incoming President Heather Hoganson and Executive Director Mary Burroughs. My sincere thanks to you all, and may you have a wonderful holiday season.
